GEORGIA VETERAN TRAUMA PROJECT
Information for Referring Professionals and the Public
WHAT ?: Services for Georgia Based Iraq & Afghanistan War Vets With Combat
Related Trauma & PTSD (including combat veterans of other wars)
WHO ?: EMDR Trained Licensed Mental Health Professionals
on a Georgia Public Registry offering pro-bono & low cost compassionate, confidential & effective treatment to Georgia Veterans
with Combat Related Trauma / Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Phantom Limb Pain (PLP)
WHERE ?: Web Site: www.GeorgiaVeteranTraumaProject.org
In
response to our concern about the increasing number of reports of traumatized Iraq and Afghan war veterans who are having difficulty
connecting to appropriate psychological services, we have decided to create this web site registry in which Georgia licensed
mental health professionals who have speciality training in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) can offer their services.
If Georgia EMDR professionals can each take 1 or 2 or 3 veterans, we can make a difference by offering early treatment for veterans
who are experiencing PTSD or other effects of war trauma. It is our intention that these services would also be available to other
veterans experiencing trauma and/ or PTSD.
Who Is On The List ?: Mental health professionals who have specilaty training in EMDR and
want to offer services to veterans regardless of ability to pay.
How does this work ?: A list of EMDR trained professionals in
Georgia who want to offer services to veterans is published on the web site
www.GeorgiaVeteranTraumaProject.org. The website
is updated regularly with the number of vets each professional can currently accept. We are placing high priority on posting
accurate, current and usable information so vets don’t have to make repeated calls to find a therapist.
Veterans initiate calls directly
to the professional and make their own arrangements for appointment, fees, etc. All arrangements are between the therapist and the
veteran. However, all participating therapists have agreed to offer EMDR pro-bono (no cost) or on a sliding scale if
requested by the veteran. Our website includes basic information about EMDR, the purpose of this registry, and how to use
it.
NOTE: Any EMDR trained mental health professionals in Georgia may request to be listed on this web site. For questions, more information,
or suggestions to improve this registry, please contact- Dave MacDonald at
